Biography

Born in Ukraine, Andriy Viytovych is a highly accomplished violist with an impressive international career spanning several prestigious orchestras and renowned music institutions.

Graduating from the Lviv Conservatory in Ukraine and the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, Andriy was deeply influenced by professors Alberto Lysy and Johannes Eskaer, who shaped his passion for concerto and chamber music.

In 1996, Andriy joined The London Symphony Orchestra as Co-principal Viola. He was then appointed as Principal Viola of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 2000. Simultaneously, he began his position as a viola professor at the Royal College of Music in London. Additionally, he currently holds the position of Principal Viola with the English Sinfonia, further enriching his musical endeavors. In 2021, Andriy became Solo Viola in Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Throughout his career, Andriy Viytovych has played solo viola in orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, the London Symphony Orchestra, and Berliner Philharmoniker. He has also collaborated with world-renowned conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, and Sir Georg Solti.

Andriy’s musical journey has taken him on numerous international tours and festivals, including the Solsona International Festival in Spain, Cortona Festival in Italy, and the BBC Proms in London.

Andriy’s deep passion for chamber music has led to collaborations with ensembles such as Camerata Lysy Gstaad, the London Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players, Razumovsky Ensemble, and Soloists of the Royal Opera House.
