Biography

Venezuelan violist based in Portugal since 1996. First viola solo of the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos), and professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. He was invited to numerous concerts by the Orquestra Gulbenkian and Orquestra Nacional do Porto as a solo viola. He was awarded the title of Specialist in Music by the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. He was co-founder of Orquestra Geração and in 2013 teacher at the Summer Course for Strings of Steinen in Germany. For two years he was a tutor at the Orquestra do Estágio Gulbenkian. He is founder and soloist of the Camerata Atlântica. In 2022 he has done masterclasses at the Academy of Music and Drama of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

He completed his musical studies in “El Sistema” of Venezuela and later in Germany. In Poland he studied at the “European Mozart Academy” in Krakow with Nobuko Imai, Serge Collot and Thomas Riebl.

As a soloist he performed in his country with the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas, Orquesta Sinfónica de Maracaibo, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara, as well as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Panamá, Rhodanien Philharmonic Orchestra of France, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra do Norte and Sinfonietta Lisboa. He performed together with violits Gerard Caussé and violinist Nicolas Chumachenko.

He offered recitals and chamber music concerts in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and in Europe he has performed in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, England and Portugal.

He was the first soloist viola of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara, of the Rhodanien Philharmonic of France, of the European Mozart Academy Orchestra, of the Orquestra do Norte, and was selected for the first viola of the Real Filharmonía de Galicia. He participated in youth orchestra festivals in the United States and Puerto Rico.

In Portugal he has carried out an extensive musical work for more than two decades, with the premiere of Portuguese works standing out, and won the first prize in the Júlio Cardona string contest (1999). He performed the integrals of the Brahms and Hindemith sonatas and recorded two CDs with violinist Ana Beatriz Manzanilla with Duos by Mozart Martinú and Villa-lobos. He is frequently invited to offer masterclasses in various conservatories and music academies in the country, and since 2017 has been working closely with the Xiquitsi youth project in the city of Maputo, Mozambique.
