Biography

Levon Mouradian was born in Yerevan in 1959 and began his musical studies at an early age,
He won prizes at several top international music competitions such as, 3rd prize at the ”Soviet Union Music Competition” in Moscow, 2nd prize and ”Silver Medal” at the ”Pablo Casals International Cello Competition” in Budapest, prize winner at the ”International Tchaikovsky Music Competition” in Moscow and the 1st prize at the ”International Music Competition Júlio Cardona”.
As a soloist, he has performed with eminent conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Veronika Dudarova, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Jansug Kakhidze, Lawrence Foster, Vakhtang Jordania, David Khandjian, Omri Hadari, Daniel Nazare, Vag Papian, Avner Biron and Gheorge Kostin, Joana Carneiro, Ruben Aharonian, among others.
Mouradian has performed as a soloist all over the world, in countries such as the USA, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Russia, Armenia, Israel, Holland, Germany, France, Belgium, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, and former Yugoslavia.
He performes regularly at international music festivals, such as the ”Nachtstücke Munchen” and ”Schloss Weikersheim” in Germany, David Oistrakh Festival in Tallinn, Santander International Music Festival and many other festivals around the world.
In 1999, Mouradian began directing the cello class of the arts department at the ”State University of Évora”, Portugal.
Since 2015 he has directed the cello class of the main music University of Portugal, ”Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa”.
Together with Ivan Monigetti and Nathaniel Rosen, he is part of the faculty of the ”Festival Internacional de Viana do Castelo” and gave masterclasses all around the world including at the ”Conservatory of Paris” ,”University of Georgia USA”, ”Valle De Arlanza ”, ”New Generation Music Festival” in Armenia, among others.
During his career as a teacher he was singled out by his peers for his innovative approach to teaching, which aims to bring out the best in each student and help them reach their full potential.
Mouradian served as a jury member of several renowned international music competitions such as the ”Julio Cardona International String’s Competition”, ”Concurso Capela”, ”Renaissance Competition”, among others.
Throughout his career, he recorded several music albums and CD’s. These include an album released by ”Clave Records Spain” with the A. Babadjanian Piano Trio and Komitas/Aslamazian pieces, the ”IAN Album” with sonatas by Armenian composers of the 20th century, such as H.Dellalian, T. Mansurian, K. Khachaturian, A. Terterian, a CD of the Shostakovich viola sonata op.147 and K.Khachaturian cello sonata, a CD of the cello sonata by the Dutch composer Wim Zwaag , dedicated to himself and aditionally the Piano Trio and a Piano Quartet by the same composer, a CD with three virtuosic sonatas for cello by P.Locatelli, J.Valentini and Boccherini’s with harpsichord and a CD of the cello concerto composed by the British composer Ivan Moody, which was also dedicated to Levon Mouradian.
He performs on the ”Fito” cello made by Celestino Farotti in Milan, 1911
