Biography

José María Santandreu, Yamaha Clarinets Artist, formed at the Conservatories of Valencia (ES) and Vienna (AU), and he studied with professors and soloists such as Karl Leister, Reinhard Wieser, Wenzel Fuchs, Miguel Ángel Tamarit, among others. He holds a Master’s Degree in Musical Interpretation and Research taught by VIU (Valencia International University) and is studying doctoral studies at the Universitat Jaume I (Castellón de la Plana-ES).

As a professor, he develops his activity in different professional and higher conservatories, and he have teached master class and courses, such as in the Canary Islands, Granada, Tarragona, Alicante, Castellón and Valencia, and online classes with students from Colombia. Also, he has published his first method for clarinet “18 Estudios Breves”.

His recordings, “Clarinet for you” (2011), works for solo clarinet, -his version of Sequenza from L. Berio, is published at the Luciano Berio Official Study Center in Italy-, “Sounds of the clarinet” (2014) with works for clarinet and electroacoustic, and “Colours for clarinet” (2016), a monograph by Jonathan FeBland with works of different styles, have been presenting in different media, such as TVE, RNE, Levante TV, Radio 4G, Ràdio 9, À Punt, etc… He was interviewed and cover of Ritmo magazine and have received various international awards such as Global Music Awards, Akademia Music Awards (California-USA) and V Manhattan International Competition (NY-USA).

He has performed as a soloist in chamber groups and orchestras such as Orquesta de Cámara de Valencia, Orquesta Filarmonía, Orquesta Sinfónica de Villareal, Orquesta Reino de Aragón and Universal Symphony Orchestra, on tours, concerts and recordings, in various auditoriums such as the WiZink Center (Madrid), ADDA and Teatro Principal (Alicante), Palau de la Música de Valencia, TAMA (Aldaia- VLC.), Tarragona, Roquetas de Mar, Granada, Alcalá de Guadaíra, Zaragoza, etc…

He played with Wenzel Fuchs, soloist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (AL), Concerto for two clarinets and orchestra op. 35 by F. Krommer, and solo concert performances at the Contemporary Music Foundation (Barcelona), ElectroRafel Festival (Vlc.), AMEE Meeting Point Festival (Valencia), Peñafiel Milenio Festival (Peñafiel), BBVA Foundation (Madrid), COMA (Madrid), SOXII (Canals-VLC,) and Espai Art Contemporani (Castelló de la Plana).

Currently, he is performing with the pianist Christian A. Esteve Zinsser, “Colours for clarinet” in concert and KlarHarp Ensemble (harp, clarinet and actor). He is finishing the recording of his fourth CD “Clarinet-Concept” with works composed for him, and he is principal clarinet in Universal Symphony Orchestra and member of the interdisciplinary group dK projection founded by Ángel Arranz in the Netherlands.
