José Antonio Masmano is Associate Principal Oboe and Cor Anglais of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (Granada City Orchestra) since 1996 and Professor of Oboe and Orchestral Repertoire at the Conservatoire of Music in Aragon since 2009. He was President of the Asociación de Fagotistas y Oboístas de España (Spanish Double Reed Society) since its foundation in 2011 until 2018.

Masmano plays a Püchner Oboe model 733-C.

He was born in Buñol (Valencia) in 1976. After finishing his oboe studies at the Conservatoire of Valencia he proceeded to obtain the “Performance Diploma” with Emanuel Abbühl at the Conservatorium of Rotterdam along with scholarships from the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and the “Generalitat Valenciana”. He perfected his oboe studies with Douglas Boyd, Lajos Lencses, Ellen Marsden, J. Capezzalli, Celia Nicklin, Eduardo Martinez, Rogelio Gil and Montse Lopez.

José Antonio is a founding member of Taller Barroco Hemiolia, Granada Baroque Orchestra (OBG), Al-Andalus Ensemble and Ensemble Nayb.

Orchestral activities include collaborating with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Qatar Philiarmonic Orchestra, Malaysian Philarmonic Orchestra, BandArt, Chamber Orchestra of the European Community and many Spanish orchestras, working with conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Christopher Hogwood, Frans Brüggen, Lorin Maazel, Andris Nelsons, George Benjamin, Josep Pons, Fabio Biondi and Andrea Marcon.

As a soloist he has performed concertos by Vivaldi, Albinoni, Bach, Oscar Navarro as well as the Concerto for oboe by Richard Strauss with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Vojvođanski Simfonijski Orkestar (Serbia) and Orchestra Magna Grecia (Italia) addition the Concertino for Cor Anglais and orchestra by Wolf Ferrari, also with the OCG.

In the educational field José Antonio has given courses and masterclasses in Malaysia, Italy, Colombia, Russia, Brazil, the United States and much of the Spanish geography collaborating with young orchestras preparing the section of winds.

He has been invited to participate as a jury in prestigious competitions such as the IV Concurso de Cámara in Alzira 2013, the I Concurso de Fagot y Oboe 2014 de la Asociación de Doble Caña de Sevilla, the 2016 Young Artist in Columbus (Georgia and the 2017 Gillet/Fox International Oboe Competition in Appleton (Wisconsin).
