Biography

Joaquín Hernández Ferrús was born in Valencia and begins his musical studies in the Musical School of the Musical Society La Artística of  Buñol (Valencia).

In the Musical Conservatory of this town he finishes the elemental and professional grades of clarinet and enters the Superior Conservatory of Music Joaquín Rodrigo, where he ends his musical studies obtaining the Superior Grade in Clarinet (professor).

He attends several clarinet master classes with Don Roy Jowitt, Don Enrique Pérez Piquer, Don Mark Withers…attending frequently advanced courses with Don Joan Enric Lluna, as welll as Orchestra Conducting courses with Don Henrie Adams. He also took the courses for the LOGSE Teaching Function Didactics in the Confederation of Independent Unions and Union of Civil Workers of Murcia. He obtains the Certificate of Pedagogical Competency of the Education Faculty of the University of Salamanca. It should be pointed out his collaboration with the Orchestra Odón Alonso of León, the OSCYL and the ONE several times.

He is the conductor of the Youth Band of the S.M. “La Artística” of Buñol, Youth Band of Buñol Mixed Secondary School with which he makes tours through the European continent, having the city of Szeged (Hungary) as a destiny for an intercultural exchange.

He conducts as guest conductor the Christmas Concert in Toro (Zamora) in December 2008 with the Band La Lira from that city.

He has been clarinet teacher in the Municipal School of Music Jesús López Cobos of Toro (Zamora) for 13 years, working, among other things, his own arrangement of the Concert for Clarinet and Orchestra of C. Stamitz and the Little Night Music Serenade of W.A.Mozart (Eine kleine Nachtmusik K 525) as conductor and performer.

During the academic year 2016/2017 he is clarinet teacher in the Municipal School of Music of Villamayor (Salamanca) and from september 2018 to 2022 he has been developing his pedagogical tasks as Musical-artistic director in the Cultural Association Euterpe, Musical band of Villamayor.

From the academic year 1994/1995 he also shares his teaching tasks as Professor of clarinet in the Superior Conservatory of Music of Castilla y León (Salamanca) where he also teaches Clarinet Ensemble, musical group with which he makes many performances, as well as performing the New York Counterpoint Steve Reich with the group of clarinets of the conservatory. In may 2023 with a ensemble of clarinets he conducts the Eine Kleine Nachtmusik K.525, and performs with a small orchestra the Clarinet Concert in A Major K.622 for Basset Clarinet and Orchestra of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

He has been member of the grader board committee for the public examinations for clarinet teachers in the Provincial Conservatory of León and in the Professional Conservatory of Music of Salamanca.

He has given Master classes in the Conservatory Licinio Refice in Frosinone (Italia), as well as has performed Spanish music concerts in Alatri and Zagarolo (Italia).

He is founder member of the New Federation of Music Bands of Castilla y León, and is in charge of the secretary’s office of this federation..

In his facet as pedagogue it must be pointed out his relation with the students, standing out above all, aspects related to mental relaxation, as well as the breathing system, muscular and circulatory systems when performing music, all these aspects adapted to the development of a practical work with the main instrument, also working particularly on “stage fright” and instilling clearly the logical manner of transmitting music from the personal individual inner thoughts.
