He graduated with Honors from the San Sebastian High Conservatory and with the Gold Medal from the Bayonne Côte Basque Music Conservatory (France) with Professor J.J. Orzan. He improved his studies with FranciscoJ. Rosario Vega (Soloist in the Real Orquesta Sinfónica of Seville) and recognised trombonists such as S. Hartman. Alberto Urretxo has been thePrincipal Trombone in the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS) since 1998. 

He has offered many recitals and concerts as a soloist around Spain. We could highlight Darius Milhaud’s Concertino d’hiver and L. Grondhal (2005) and H. Tomasi’s (2014) Concerts for Trombone and Orchestra with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS). He has premiered two pieces for string quartet and trombone in the BOS Chamber Music Season:  H. Extremiana’s Carptim and J.C. Perez’s Tronboi Sonata. Both pieces were dedicated to Alberto Urretxo.  

He is an Orchestra Repertoire and Chamber Music Professor in the Euskadi High Conservatory of Music (Musikene). Besides, he is often invited to teach trombone and chamber music seminars. For instance, in 2013 he was invited by Suwon University (South Korea) to teach a seminar together with his brother Unai. Then, in 2014, “Asia trombone festival” invited him to the Daegu International Festival, where he offered several recitals and master classes along with pianist Miyang Kim.  

He is also the founder and one of the promoters of Euskadi Brass, a cultural project which aims at complementing the training of students, professionals and amateurs of brass wind instruments. They use music as well as the fusion of music and many other artistic expressions.
